The Cruxshadows & Maelstrom @ The Rigger 2002

First on the stage were Maelstrom. As usual their set was expertly played. However I was disappointed as they seemed to play a shorter set than usual. But they did do an excellent cover of Soft Cell`s Bedsitter, but no Monster Mash this time :(
After a long wait the Cruxshadows took to the stage, well at least 3 of them did. Rogue decided to make a dramatic entrance from the back of the Rigger, and thus set the tone for the rest of the evening. I did not know what to expect of the band performance wise, but in my opinion they put on a show equally as dramatic as Rammstein did in Manchester. Minus flames and eyebrow loss!
I don`t think I`ve ever seen anyone with as much energy as Rogue. He wandered around the Rigger, and managed to scare the crap out of me at one point when I was watching the band and he popped up from nowhere in front of me. I can`t remember much of the details of their set as I was transfixed for most of it. But I was happy as they played one of my favourites Eurydice, and Rogue even managed to get some audience participation from the crowd.
I do need to mention that the rest of the band were also excellent. I did feel sorry for them as Rogue was getting most of the attention. Mind you he was performing some death defying feats by the end of the night. Sitting on the bar in the Rigger was one of the most dangerous ones I thought, plus his chair aerobics later on.
The band came back on for two encores at the end, playing Marilyn for the first one. I missed the second one as I thought they had finished and I wandered off, only to come back and find half of the Rigger standing on the stage! I was very confused. It was an excellent show, the only disappointment was that more people didn`t make the effort the come out, especially after all the effort Black Bat promotions had put into organizing the event.
